Ecotourism is a rapidly expanding branch of tourism that seeks to contribute both to the enlightenment of the tourist and the conservation of the destination.

The terms for defining such destinations are vague and are only partially explicitly regulated. Destinations for ecotourism may, per individual definitions, range from forest reserves to rural villages to national parks.
