- Saftey Goggles - Protective eye wear in order to protect the eyes while doing expirements.
- Graduated Cylinder - Measures the Volume of a liquid or irregular shaped solid.
- Balance - Measures mass.
- The Triple Beam Balance is the standard balance used in most middle schools.
- Thermometer (file 1) - Measures temperature (aka the heat in an area). The standard metric system is the Celsius Thermometer
- Meter Stick - Measures linear measurements such as length, width, and height (depth)
- The metric ruler is used to measure linear measurements that require smaller units.
- Both Beakers and flasks are holding vessels for liquids and solutions. They come in different type of shapes and are calibrated. Flasks with a triangular shaped base are called Erlenmeyer flasks.
- Beaker Tongs are used to transport the glassware in which hot substances are inside the glassware.
- Test tubes (file 2) are long and cylindrical with round bases. They are not calibrated.
- Test tubes are held during lab in a test tube rack. Test tube racks are equipped with drying pegs.
- When heating a substance in a test tube, a test tube clamp is used to transport the glassware.
- Funnel - serves as a conduit when transferring from one container to another.
- Both eye medicine droppers and pipettes are used to extract small volumes of liquid. There is a difference between a eye/medicine dropper and pipettes: Pippetes are calibrated, while Eye/Medicine droppers are not calibrated. (most).
- A mortar and pestle are used to grind/mash substances.
- Compound Microscope: Microscope composed of a dual (two) lens system that uses lenses and light to observe and study matter too small for naked eye.
- Magnifying glass (file 3) - single lens used to observe and study matter too small to be seen with unaided eye.
- Dissecting pan - Used to hold specimens during dissection.
- Both probes and dissecting needles are used to designate body parts and clean away debris. Dissecting needles, which are sometimes called teasing needles, are also used to seperate tissues. Probes have a rounded, blunt tip. Dissecting/teasing needles have a sharp, pointed tip.
- Forceps (file 4) - surgical tweezers
- Scalpel - surgical knife
Notes/Safety
- The person's hands are wet. They should be dry to prevent fire. What he can improve on next time is to keep his hands dry to prevent electrocution.
- There is no lid/cap on the bottle of chemicals in which it might fall and create a huge mess. The person show put a cap/lid on the bottle next time.
- The knife is at the edge of the table, it might fall and cut his foot or any other body part. In order for him to be safe, next time he should put the knife in the center of the table.
- The person does not have his coat on. He could hurt his body in which chemicals might be splashed into his body. It is better for him to wear his coat next time so he does not get any splashes on his body.
- The person does not have safety goggles on. He could get chemicals washed up in his eyes. Its is suggestion to wear safety goggles in an experiment so chemicals do not wash up on his eyes.
- One of the containers has a crack on it. The stuff in the container might be poisonous and might fall on the person's body. He should pick a better container.
