If you are using MS Windows, you may choose one of the paths:

You may use some virtualization software (like Qemu or VMware Workstation) and install inside of them GNU/Linux (or other Unix-like) operating system. This path is the best if you want to learn more.
You may use Cygwin to simulate Unix-like environment inside of Windows. This path is good enough for learning and you may choose it because, for example, you don't have enough of (your) time or (disk) space to install another operating system inside of your existing MS Windows.
You may also choose to install only Python inside of your MS Windows installation. Note that you will have to work in a very different environment than it is assumed in this course. However, as this is open course, we may build together this course path, too.
