Motivation and emotion/Assessment/Chapter/Marker notes
< Motivation and emotion < Assessment < ChapterMarking and feedback process for book chapters

- Read and review each allocated chapter, based on the:
- Chapter guidelines
- Marking criteria
- Check word count (see length in guidelines) - Suggested tool. Ignore any any words over 4400 (4000 + 10%) for marking purposes (for UG students) or over 4950 words (4500 + 10%) for G students.
- Check the page's history. For marking purposes, use the last version prior to submission - but if only minor changes are made after submission, just use the latest version.
- Add reviewer feedback on the chapter's Wikiversity talk page, using {{MEBF/20145}}. This feedback should include:
- Some comments in relation to each marking criterion (theory, research, and written expression); minimum:
- at least one main aspect which is done well and
- at least one recommendation and/or suggestion for improvement
- Style of comments: In written comments:
- Avoid referring to you/your - comment instead about the chapter in 3rd person e.g., "the theoretical aspects of the chapter could be improved"
- Comment in the future (about improvements that could be made) rather than the criticising the past.
- Avoid indicating actual or even approximate grade - comments go on Wikiversity, whereas marks go on Moodle
- Some comments in relation to each marking criterion (theory, research, and written expression); minimum:
- In the marking spreadsheet, allocate a mark for each of the three criterion (theory, research, written expression). A total will be created automatically. No need to add comments - these should be on the Wikiversity talk page.
- After marking several chapters, seek feedback from the unit convener.
- If in doubt about anything or wanting a second opinion about a chapter, contact the unit convener.
Optional
Ideally, markers should also:
- Optional: Edit the chapter page as you go to illustrate or indicate possible improvements e.g., this could involve using clarification templates.
- Optional: Add a pearl of wisdom to the pearls of wisdom chapter.
- Optional: Add commonly repeated feedback to general feedback
- Social contribution marks will be provided separately
