Model of human intelligence/Location of intelligence
< Model of human intelligenceMost of human intelligence is of course located in the brain. This is however very narrow view that misses interesting aspects of human intelligence. Following locations host substantial parts of the overall intelligence:
- body - Embodied intelligence is any aspect of human body that contributes to rational behavior. Efficiency, versatility, and richness of sensory inputs are all contributors to intelligence. One must not forget social compatibility that comes with human body.
- brain hardware - Quite obvious. This includes all brain circuits as well as low-level data accumulated by specialized brain functions.
- brain software (knowledge) - Collected over lifetime. Good use of experience has huge impact on success and it therefore constitutes part of human intelligence.
- culture - Cultural heritage quickly bootstraps knowledge of a developing human. It is a kind of shared intelligence.
- environment - Some knowledge and/or related computing mechanisms get embedded in objects, places, organizations, or even other people. Often this embedded intelligence is dropped out of conscious mind and exists solely in structures of the environment.
- information technology - Some objects in the environment serve as pure intelligence extensions, e.g. computers, books, or phones.

- Linkify.
- Doesn't it overlap too much with aspects of intelligence? Maybe interlink the two.
- Separation into Hardware/Software is inappropriate, as the software is directly encoded in hardware (physical connections between neurons / network structure).
