Motivation for Using the SLD Checklist

When you are learning something new, would you rather DO something, or read about how to do it? What is the difference between the two?

Scenario

This spring, you want to plant a container garden. You know nothing about it, so you do some research and find out that your neighbourhood gardening store, Ambrosia is offering a free course in gardening. The brochure says, looking at the list of garden items that you need for a container garden, you can read about planting one, and off you go!
Is that an action-oriented course or not?
