5. What is the main purpose of the ITIL qualification scheme?

Ensure that relevant and timely certifications are available to support the formalized learning requirements of individuals and organizations related to ITIL service management practices.
Establish a recognized standard of knowledge and competency for the IT professional.
ITIL is not a standard but a best practices collection.
Provide assurance to the public that a certified specialist has successfully completed an accredited training program and an evaluation, including an examination process, designed to assess the knowledge, experience, and skills requisite to the provision of high quality IT domain.
Accredited trainings are recommended but not mandatory
Support the benefits of professional continuing education and development.
the certification does not require refresh sessions to keep valid.

7. What criteria must be fulfilled to become certified as an ITIL expert?

Having already passed successfully the intermediate certification.
Only the foundation certification is required.
Pass all the five intermediate service lifecycle modules or all the four intermediate service capability modules.
The only requirement is to pass enough modules to gain 15 credits whatever the stream they are coming from.
Pass the “Managing across the lifecycle” module.

8. What criteria must be fulfilled to become an ITIL master?

Being able to demonstrate to a jury the intensive usage of ITIL best practices.
Having already passed successfully the expert certification.
Having worked for at least five years in IT service domain at a management level.
Pass all the nine intermediate level modules.
No additional credit is needed to go from expert to master level.
