Go is a strategic board game that originated in China more than 2,500 years ago.

It is most commonly played on a 19 by 19 grid, although beginners are often taught how to play the game on a 9 by 9 board, and then progress to a 13 by 13 board, eventually reaching the 19 by 19 board. The pieces used are called "stones". There are white and black stones. Unlike in chess, the player with the black stones plays first.

The name "Go" is widely accepted in the West; however, the game is also known as Igo in Japan, Weiqi in China, and Baduk in Korea.
