Common tools

Integrated circuits
Integrated circuits are chips that have basic circuits internally, and can be wired to externally for greater use.
555 timer
There are variants to the 555 chip for the same purpose but for more outputs: 556 chip. This chip is used to time circuits.

The LM386 is an audio amplifier chip.
