Female flowers are maroon in color. | Foliage: | It has green arrowhead-shaped leaves and red-tinted deeply ridged stems, and it sprouts from an aggressive rhizome. The leaves are edible, imparting a pleasing, tart taste, but should not be eaten in large quantities.
