[1] Natural numbers

The numbers which are generally used in our day to day life for counting are termed as natural numbers. They are also referred to as "counting" numbers.

Eg:- 1,2,3,4,5,6..................., infinity.

[2] Whole numbers

These numbers are the set of natural numbers with an additional member 0 added to the group. Thus the can be represented as:-

set of natural numbers + zero = whole numbers

Eg:- 0,1,2,3,4,5,6..................., infinity.

[3] Integers

Addition of two natural or whole numbers always give us natural or whole numbers. However in case of subtraction in certain cases for example 2 - 3= -1 we get a value preceded by a (-)minus sign. These numbers ie positive as well as negative numbers form the set of integers. They can be represented by plotting them on a number line.

The above image is the numberline on which Integers are plotted

[4] Rational Numbers

All numbers that are terminating (ending) ex.3.56 or repeating (never ending with pattern) ex.3.33333333333...

[5] Irrational Numbers

All numbers that are not terminating or repeating. ex.3.14159265...

[6] Real Numbers

All Rational and irrational numbers
