Course description
American Literature: 1865-present focuses on important literary developments following the American Civil War. A multitude of novels, short stories, plays, poems, and essays will be read and analyzed for thematic understanding, literary devices/language, symbolism, characterization, and the like. Such information will be utilized in the forms of exams, small writing assignments, full-length essays, and critique pieces. Students are expected to complete ALL assigned reading as graded assignments are GUARANTEED each class "meeting".
Course information
Student grades are based upon the following weights and measures:
- 40% of the student's grade is based on EXAMS/TESTS
- 30% of the final grade is based on CRITICAL ESSAYS/WRITING ASSIGNMENTS
- 20% of the student's grade is based on CLASS DISCUSSION (see additional information below).
- 10% of the final grade is based on COURSE ATTENDANCE
