Course description

American Literature: 1865-present focuses on important literary developments following the American Civil War. A multitude of novels, short stories, plays, poems, and essays will be read and analyzed for thematic understanding, literary devices/language, symbolism, characterization, and the like. Such information will be utilized in the forms of exams, small writing assignments, full-length essays, and critique pieces. Students are expected to complete ALL assigned reading as graded assignments are GUARANTEED each class "meeting".
