General class amateur radio test question pool consists of ten Subelement and 35 parts and has a total of 484 questions. from the 484 questions 35 questions will be randomly selected with one from each part. To be eligible to take this test you must first pass the Technician level amateur radio test. To pass this test you must answer 26 of the 35 questions correctly. All the questions on this test are “A”“B”“C” “D” multiple choice. The questions are only good for four years. They are only good for four years because they are replaced on a four year cycle.

This Subelement covers commission's rules. there are five questions one from each part

  1. - General class control operator frequency privileges; primary and secondary allocations
  2. - Antenna structure limitations; good engineering and good amateur practice; beacon operation; restricted operation; retransmitting radio signals
  3. - Transmitter power regulations; HF data emission standards
  4. - Volunteer Examiners and Volunteer Examiner Coordinators; temporary identification
  5. - Control categories; repeater regulations; harmful interference; third party rules; ITU regions

Subelement G2

This Subelement covers operating procedures there are six questions one from each part

  1. - Phone operating procedures; USB/LSB utilization conventions; procedural signals; breaking into a QSO in progress; VOX operation
  2. - Operating courtesy; band plans
  3. - Emergencies, including drills and emergency communications
  4. - Amateur auxiliary; minimizing Interference; HF operations
  5. - Digital operating: procedures, procedural signals and common abbreviations
  6. - CW operating procedures and procedural signals, Q signals and common abbreviations; full break in

Subelement G3

This Subelement covers radio wave propagation there are Three questions one from each part

  1. - Sunspots and solar radiation; ionospheric disturbances; propagation forecasting and indices
  2. - Maximum Usable Frequency; Lowest Usable Frequency; propagation "hops"
  3. - Ionospheric layers; critical angle and frequency; HF scatter; Near Vertical Incidence Sky waves

Subelement G4

This Subelement covers amateur radio practices there are five questions one from each part

  1. - Two-tone Test; amplifier tuning and neutralization; DSP
  2. - Test and monitoring equipment
  3. - Interference with consumer electronics; grounding
  4. - Speech processors; S meters; common connectors
  5. - HF mobile radio installations; emergency and battery powered operation

Subelement G5

This Subelement covers electrical principles there are three questions one from each part

  1. - Resistance; reactance; inductance; capacitance; impedance; impedance matching
  2. - The Decibel; current and voltage dividers; electrical power calculations; sine wave root-mean-square (RMS) values; PEP calculations
  3. - Resistors, capacitors, and inductors in series and parallel; transformers

Subelement G6

This Subelement covers circuit components there are three questions one from each part

  1. - Resistors; capacitors; inductors
  2. - Rectifiers; solid state diodes and transistors; solar cells; vacuum tubes; batteries
  3. - Analog and digital integrated circuits (IC's); microprocessors; memory; I/O devices; microwave IC's (MMIC's ); display devices

Subelement G7

This Subelement covers commission's rules. there are two questions one from each part

  1. - Power supplies; transmitters and receivers; filters; schematic symbols
  2. - Digital circuits (gates, flip-flops, shift registers); amplifiers and oscillators

Subelement G8

This Subelement covers signals and emissions there are two questions one from each part

  1. - Carriers and modulation: AM; FM; single and double sideband ; modulation envelope; deviation; overmodulation
  2. - Frequency mixing; multiplication; HF data communications; bandwidths of various modes

Subelement G9

This Subelement covers antennas there are four questions one from each part

  1. - Antenna feedlines: characteristic impedance, and attenuation; SWR calculation, measurement and effects; matching networks
  2. - Basic antennas
  3. - Directional antennas
  4. - Specialized antennas

Subelement G0

This Subelement covers electrical and rf safety there are two questions one from each part

  1. - RF safety principles, rules and guidelines; routine station evaluation
  2. - Safety in the ham shack: electrical shock and treatment, grounding, fusing, interlocks, wiring, antenna and tower safety
