The 3D Workspace Manager is a compositing window manager developed as an open source project at Chalmers University Media Laboratory in Sweden by Niklas Elmqvist and Robert Karlsson. 3D Workspace Manager acts as a platform for the research and development of future three dimensional user interfaces and interfaces with X11 to provide necessary backwards compatibility with legacy applications.

Features

The project provided inspiration for the Microsoft Task Gallery, and 3dwm was mentioned on the Microsoft Research Website.
