The Vegemite sandwich is a simple dish, which is known to frequent the lunchboxes of school children and the plates of casual breakfasters alike. The lunchbox variety often involves two slices of bread, whereas the breakfast variety usually only involves one, and is often toasted. Margarine may be used as a replacement for the butter, however in modern times it is becoming common for margarine/butter to be considered an optional ingredient.

  1. Spread butter thickly and unevenly on bread. (optional)
  2. Spread Vegemite a little less thickly, and unevenly on bread.
  3. A slice of cheese can be added at this point. (optional)
