There are two very important things you need to know when working with zero or negative exponents. The rules of them.

First, any number the zero power always equals one. For example -500⁰ = 1

Second, any number to the negative power is the opposite fraction of the exponent. For example 2^-2 = 1/2² = 1/4 because 2² = 4 and when you have 2^-2 it becomes its reciprocal to get 1/4.

This is a review of section 2 of the polynomials chapter.
