History

"The major clinical facility within the Medical Center is UAB Hospital, consisting of approximately 1,100 beds in multiple separate structures. In 2015, UAB Hospital was ranked the nation's third-largest public hospital. The North Pavilion, opened in 2004, houses the University Emergency Department as well as a number of inpatient medical, surgical, and critical care beds and operating suites.

The second component Emergency Department is situated at Children's of Alabama, a 350-bed freestanding pediatric specialty hospital with a combined volume of more than 120,000 pediatric and adult visits to the ED in 2013, the UAB Emergency Medicine Residency Program provides the resident with exposure to a broad and deep variety of critical and non-critical adult and pediatric illnesses and injuries."
