This simulation models how the appearance and motion of the stars near and around the northern horizon change over the course of hours. The specific latitude modeled can be changed. The north celestial pole (NCP) is shown in yellow.
The default latitude is 35.5 degrees. Describe the motion of the stars. Which stars never rise and never set? Change the latitude to 0.0 degrees (the Equator). Where is the NCP? Describe the motion of the stars. Change the latitude to -35.5 degrees. Can you see the NCP now? Describe te motion of the stars now.
