When the Greek economy collapsed and among others also the state railways had to fire the thousands and yet again thousands of unproductive or only partly productive workers, in the ensuing demonstrations and turbulent times whatever could be broken or stolen, surely was. These smashed modern displays are so typical of a Greek station of today.

The old car loading and unloading facility at Thessaloniki station. For quite some time during and after the financial chaos it was not anymore possible to take one's car with in the Thessaloniki-Athens night trains, but now that traffic has been restarted again.

A modern and fully working catenary wire installation rail tractor built by the Austrian company Plasser & Theurer. It's nice to see in Greece a train that is fully operational and not covered by graffiti. These rail tractors might have had a lot to do after disgruntled ex-workers of state railways stole for example kilometres and kilometres of catenary copper wire.

At a time in near Greek history the that time leftist government was in close ties with the Soviet Union. In those days material even for the state railways OSE was often bought from the USSR, just like these two Lada Samara cars that apparently had been used by OSE employees. Currently they are being used by unemployed homeless drunkards as a kind of a tent after OSE fired thousands and yet thousands of former employees.

Is this art?? No, it's just a train photographer who does not see long enough to figure out if there is a train approaching and who tries to use his 50x zoom lens as a binocular. But Greek air in June is so warm that a definite answer is hard to say :-)
