Canadian National 2451 (GE DASH 8-40CM) and 2518 (DASH 9-44CWL) with an
eastbound train of empty steel coal cars at Boston Bar, British Columbia
on 30 May 1995. The photo clearly shows the difference between the full
width carbody on 2451 and the regular carbody on 2518.

Canadian National 5385 - a 3000 hp General Motors SD40-2 built in 1973
at La Grange Illinois for Missouri Pacific and seen at Dartmouth, Nova
Scotia on 7 February 1998. Note the bell below the running board. Most
Canadian units have the bell above the front windows or on the roof to
avoid trapping snow. Dynamic brake housing is clearly visible as a
bulge near centre at roof level.

Canadian National 3000hp US built General Motors SD40-2 (later CN 5386),
recently purchased from Union Pacific and still in UP colours with CN
stencilled on the nose in black, is seen at Moncton, New Brunswick on
30 July 1994. Because of lower snow falls in the US the bell is mounted
below the frame instead of above the cab windows as is done on Canadian
built locomotives. Note absence of dynamic brakes (no bulge).

illustrate the difference in hoods (that on 7103 comes from a GP9) as they switch double-stack
containers at Halifax Ocean terminals on 9 February 1998.

Canadian National hump yard set comprising two 2000hp GP38-2ms and two
slugs in Moncton, New Brunswick on 8 September 1987. 7526 was built by
General Motors in 1973 and converted to provide electricity to drive
the slug traction motors in 1980. Slug 279 was built by GM in 1980.

term lease to Canadian National for the six winter months of each year.

This loco was on loan to CN as a payback of horsepower-hours used by ON
when CN locomotives hauled ON trains. There are no dynamic brakes.
