Value-added tax

A value-added tax is a sales tax applied at all levels of resource extraction[?], production[?], distribution, consumption and waste disposal[?]. It taxes the service performed at each stage not to penalize any stage with undue tax burden, and so has few tax exemptions[?]. Examples are the Canadian GST[?] and EU VAT[?].
