David Durenberger (born
August 19,
1934) is an
American politician. He was a
Republican Senator from
Minnesota. He was born in
St. Cloud, Minnesota, and attended
St. John's University[?] and
University of Minnesota Law School. He served in the
United States Army 1956-1963. He was elected to the United States Senate,
November 7,
1978, to complete the unexpired term of
Hubert H. Humphrey ending
January 3,
1983. He was reelected in
1982 and again in
1988 and served from
November 8,
1978 to
January 3,
1995. He was not a candidate for reelection in
1994. He was denounced by the Senate in
1990 for unethical conduct. He had been the chairman of the Select Committee on Intelligence Ninety-ninth Congress. He was succeeded by
Rod Grams.
