Baedeker Blitz

The Baedeker Blitz was a series of reprisal raids for the bombing of the erstwhile Hanseatic League city of Lübeck during World War II. The Baedeker Blitz was conducted by the Luftwaffe in 1942.

It was enacted on strategically unimportant but picturesque cities in England. The cities were selected for their charms, hence the name Baedeker Blitz, Baedeker being the producers of tourist guide books in Germany. Among the cities attacked were Exeter, Canterbury, Bath and Norwich.
